Boyfriend for Hire by Kendall Ryan

One out of Five Stars
**SPOILERS AHEAD**

One sentence summary: Elle friend hires a male escort to accompany Elle to a wedding.

First thought: I was all about this story for the first few chapters, but I ended up getting more and more frustrated as time went on.

Why I read it: I saw Kendall Ryan's release promo for Junk Mail. That book wasn't out yet, so I picked this one instead. Plus I love the cover!

POV: First person alternating M|F, present tense

Setting: Some state that starts with a C...?

Tropes: Escort, Fake-RelationshipISH

Our Heroine: Elle. Okay, I get that she's got some confidence issues and is on the rebound, and at first I liked her! I felt bad that she's been duped by her best friend, but you know... What I can't handle, and what may have been the demise of this book, is when Nic doesn't respond to Elle's text. At the point Elle and Nic have meet in person three times. Nic is pulling back and Elle goes on a bit of a text spree. He doesn't respond, so ELLE ASSUMES HE'S DEAD? She says she KNOWS him, and there must be something terribly wrong. GURL, you met this man for less than 24 hours. I don't even know my husband well enough to guess why he's not responding to one of my texts. Then Elle shows up at Nic's home!! Help.

Our Hero: Nic. This guy is cheesy! I am not buying his romantically tactics. I'm mostly angry because Nic really seemed like a good guy. He was certainly lying to Elle and I was so ready for him to redeem himself. He had so many chances too. I'm not sure why he held back from sleeping with Elle after four meet ups, decided he was in love with her, then slept with her WITHOUT PROTECTION. "I'm clean and I'm sure Elle is too." WHAT are we teaching younger readers of romance? This book was written in 2019 and that kind of behavior just doesn't work for me.

Also, as a reader, I'm supposed to think everything is great because he saved "oral sex" for the women he loved? No. I would have liked Nic a lot more if he even just reached out to Elle's best friend.

Overall thoughts: I can't. I had to stop reading at 75%. The forgiveness scene wasn't even long enough to let Elle and Nic's coffee's cool.  They didn't even address the fact that they had unprotected sex. Nope, just Nic let's do this for real, I want to meet your family.

The sexy scenes: No.

Sorry. I'm going to stop there. I'm just a little frustrated.

How I read it: I bought this ebook on Amazon for $3.99
